Teaching yoga to blind students isn’t so different from teaching sighted ones. Clear instruction is key, and I ensure everyone knows if I’ll be walking around or making sudden movements. I use intentional cues like "face the vertical front of your mat" or "face the horizontal edge" to create a clear sense of orientation. Since the visual system is one of the three essential systems for balance, it’s normal for anyone with a visual impairment to find balance postures challenging. I deconstruct these poses to make them approachable while encouraging all my students to push their limits, regardless of their level of vision.
I also teach Integrated Yoga, where blind and sighted students practice together, breaking down stigmas and fostering inclusivity. Teaching diverse groups simultaneously is essential to making yoga accessible for everyone. Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, I offer personalized sessions both in person and online, as well as for corporate events. Contact me to book your session today!
